What is atrial fibrillation and recommendations

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common cardiac arrhythmia in clinical practice. AF is a disease characterized by uncoordinated and disorganized atrial beats, producing a rapid and irregular heartbeat (ie, irregular heartbeats). Another option is eliquis medicine. Eliquis coupon is available on the Prescription Hope at best rates.

It occurs when under normal conditions:

  • – The heart rate rises or falls. The heart rate is the number of times per minute that the heart beats. Normally it is between 60 and 100 beats per minute. It occurs when under normal conditions:
  • – The heart rate stops being regular. The heart rate refers to how the heartbeat occurs; if they are regular or irregular. The heart rate adapts to the needs of the body at each moment. But, under normal conditions, it should be regular.

Atrial fibrillation does not always cause symptoms. In fact, it is sometimes diagnosed by chance in a routine review. Even so, the most common discomforts are:  palpitations  (rapid and irregular heartbeat) and  very marked fatigue  when performing daily activities.

Not all people have the same number of atrial fibrillation attacks, nor do they occur in the same situations. There are people who have several a month and who suffer a single episode in their life. Even so, depending on their behavior and evolution, two types of atrial fibrillation are distinguished:

  • 1. Paroxística . Crises appear and disappear. They are of variable duration (from less than one minute to days). It is possible that a paroxysmal atrial fibrillation progresses to a permanent one.
  • 2. Persistent and permanent . Atrial fibrillation is constant, with no recurrence of normal heart rhythm (sinus) at any time.

When an atrial fibrillation crisis occurs, the following recommendations should be followed:

  • – Do not modify the treatment schedule without medical prescription. Follow the strategy of “the pill in your pocket” (usually for patients with this type of arrhythmia, the doctor rules a treatment to control the crisis).
  • – Keep calm. Nervousness will make the discomfort even worse.
  • – Go to the Emergency Department. Most crises are cut shortly, so it is likely that, without doing anything, improve spontaneously. Otherwise, you must go to an Emergency Service. The arrhythmia will be diagnosed with ECG, Echocardiogram or Holter 24h.

Treatments to treat arrhythmias would be: intravenous or oral medication. Cardiac ablation, used to inhibit areas of the heart that may be causing problems. Cardio-defibrillator; for patients at high risk of sudden cardiac death and the pacemaker; that sends a signal to the heart that makes it beat at the correct rhythm. You can treat it by using eliquis. Eliquis cost is not much high at Prescription Hope due to available coupon.

Recommendations to prevent arrhythmia

1. Control blood pressure. Blood pressure is the main cause of atrial fibrillation. Therefore, the importance of controlling it.

2. Moderate alcohol consumption. Since it is a trigger of arrhythmic episodes.

3. Reduce stimulants. Coffee, tea, cola drinks … are stimulating substances capable of causing the arrhythmia, so you should avoid or reduce your intake.

4. Leave the tobacco. Tobacco is always harmful to health and in people with atrial fibrillation it is especially dangerous because it contains stimulants (such as nicotine) that can cause seizures. Quitting smoking is ideal to reduce episodes of atrial fibrillation, as well as the possibility of suffering from cardiovascular diseases (myocardial infarction, stroke …) or non-cardiovascular diseases (different types of cancer).

5. Moderate exercise. Walking every day and moving is important, but you have to avoid sports that involve a great cardiovascular effort.

6. Travel with some precautions. There is no problem in traveling, especially when the episodes are controlled.

Of course, when planning a trip it is important:

  • – Take all the medication
  • – Control medical appointments. (make a visit in advance)

Atrial fibrillation has a good prognosis with adequate treatment and follow-up and infrequent complications.
